La Crosse sits on the border between Minnesota and Wisconsin. The city is home to roughly 51,000 people and serves the purpose of an important center for health care on the western side of Wisconsin. In addition, it is also an important educational city, with three post-secondary institutes calling the city home.

The most important school in the area is the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. This University is home to more than 10,000 students. It is extremely well regarded as a Midwest public university, and admissions are more competitive than at several other schools in the area. In addition, the school hosts a Division III athletics program, the UW-La Crosse Eagles.
